Hook-up sex can get you in trouble. Especially if you're one of the characters in Giuseppe Manfridi's play Cuckoos. "The story is sort of a combination of the way cuckoos lay an egg in another bird's nest for the other bird to raise, and the Oedipus story," says Jennifer Decker, artistic director of Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company. "This young guy picks up a woman who's about twice his age, and they end up having anal sex and getting stuck." We get to watch them fumble around looking for a way to cover themselves. (They eventually find a parachute.) Decker doesn't want to give too much away, but the story about what this couple discovers as they try to get unstuck involves mommy issues and daddy problems. "It's a U.S. premiere, and there's so much intellectual depth, it appealed to our group," says Decker.
