Absurd sex and violence, over-the-top antihero gangsters, a distinct '70s style and a plot to kidnap the man whom Catholics believe to be God's ambassador on Earth and extort a dollar from each of the faithful - Gone with the Pope is perhaps the greatest film ever envisioned. (Okay, not really, but it's pretty fun.) Though singer/writer/actor Duke Mitchell made it nearly 25 years ago, several unfinished elements remained in storage in his garage apartment until several years after his 1981 death. Now, Grindhouse Releasing is finally introducing this masterpiece to the world. It's like the Godfathermeets Tarantino meets Plan 9 From Outer Space- who could turn that down? 11:55 p.m. Friday and Saturday. River Oaks Theatre, 2009 West Gray. For information, call 713-866-8881 or visit www.landmarktheatres.com. $9.75.
Fri., June 25, 11:55 p.m.; Sat., June 26, 11:55 p.m., 2010
