Willie Nelson's 4th of July Celebration

Aurora unleashes a rare concert film from the redheaded stranger

An icon of country music, Willie Nelson is also famous for his 4th of July concerts, not paying taxes and his tireless advocacy of freedom - as in, the freedom to smoke weed. So it's appropriate the Aurora Picture Show is marking the anniversary our nation's founding with an outdoor screening of Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Celebration, a concert film of Nelson's 1974 Independence Day show in College Station. Admittedly, the celebration is a few days late, but given that the 35mm movie is rarely shown and was never commercially released, it's worth the wait. Aurora is promising "drunken performers, crazy antics and heartbreakingly good music." 8 to 10 p.m. Tony Marron Park, 808 North York Street. For information, call 713-868-2101 or visit www.aurorapictureshow.org. $10.
Sat., July 10, 8-10 p.m., 2010
