Over the last decade, no other band from the Screamo Class of 2001 has made as many strides sonically as Thrice. Although early labelmates Thursday carved out their own emotionally cathartic niche, Thrice constantly set the bar for themselves higher and higher with each successive album until they were almost aurally unrecognizable. The band quickly outgrew the screamo confines of their first two albums and went for soaring vocals and intricate guitar lines for their major-label debut, 2003's The Artist in the Ambulance. The band changed up its game four years later, signing to Vagrant Records and going prog with a four-EP project about the elements. Last summer's Beggars found the Orange County quartet once again reassembling its sound, releasing a piano-infused, Incubus-echoing album of mellow rock.
