Sally Goodroe: Urban Legends

Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mar...maybe we better not try it

It's doubtful that storyteller Sally Goodroewill delve into any trulyterrifying tales today during her presentation, Urban Legends. So while the kids will miss out on the story of Bloody Mary and giant, man-eating alligators that nest in sewers, they will learn how urban legends get started (with a grain of truth and a self-perpetuating rumor mill), what purpose urban legends serve (the stories help explain the evil in the world and allow listeners to experience an element of danger in a safe environment) and how to spot the less than truthful aspects of urban legends (anything that involves a crazed killer with a hook for a hand, a lonely stretch of road in the middle of the night and scratches on your car door mightnot be true - we're just saying). 2 p.m. Scenic Woods Regional Library, 10677 Homestead. For information, call 832-393-2030 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org.
