Aside from all the liberal-baiting and right-wing talk, Ted Nugent is one of the unsung masters of raunchy riff-rock. Take away all the pop-culture controversy of the past 20 years and what's left is a solid catalog of he-man jams the likes of which will never be seen again in our lifetimes. Hailing from the Motor City, Nugent can trace his musical lineage to bands like the Stooges and the MC5. With his first band, the Amboy Dukes, he made garage rock go back to its primitive roots with career-foreshadowing burners like "Non-Conformist Wildebeest Man" and "Get Yer Guns." In 1975, he opened his solo debut with the eight-minute "Stranglehold," and two years later came the epic chest-beating hellride of Cat Scratch Fever, which still stands as his mission statement. Did we mention the 'Nuge has also been alcohol and drug-free since his teens?
