Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge's Luxetini

Lucky Strike Lanes & Lounge (1201 San Jacinto, 713-343-3300) is the kind of place where Zac Efron and John Mayer bowl. At least the Lucky Strike in Los Angeles is, according to the framed PR rags mounted over the urinals at the Houston location. So you might not run into a Jonas Brother here — the Pavilions location is still swanky. There's bottle service, meaning you can pay an 800 percent markup on a bottle of Captain Morgan. (The food is more reasonable, and the individual cocktail and beer prices are about what you'd expect at a bowling alley with a dress code that doesn't allow athletic wear.) My friend John and I ordered two drinks off the menu — a Kingpin martini for him, a Luxetini for me. They came out azure and crimson, respectively; we took them over to a couch and watched the bowlers. My drink was a little sweet, with too many other flavors cutting through the gin, but it might be good for someone who finds real martinis harsh. "Mine tastes like cough syrup," John said. "I mean, good cough syrup." As we talked, the club lighting near the lanes, the vividly colored drinks and the "Twist and Shout" coming over the PA made me feel like we were chaperones at a sparsely attended gay prom. Or gay chaperones at a regular prom. Either way, I don't disapprove. Me? No, of course not.

2 ounces Bombay Sapphire gin

1 ounce Chambord raspberry liqueur

Splash of lemon juice

Splash of lime juice

Shake over ice and strain into a cocktail glass. If you don't feel like squeezing a little fresh juice, even though it's a rainy Tuesday and there are only a couple of other people at the bar anyway, feel free to use Sprite. I guess.
