Adam Vincent Clay, a pianist and the founder of Houston New Arts Movement, is out to right a wrong in Lost Voices: Passion & Perseverance, a concert that celebrates Russian music that was previously suppressed. "The composers that we picked, many of them were composers that were under [Stalin's] Zhdanov Doctrine," says Clay. Composers such as Shostakovich were censored, silencing some of the most groundbreaking classical works of the time. "The compositional techniques in these pieces - you don't see them anywhere else in history," Clay says. The Houston pianist will perform works by Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff and other Russian composers accompanied by local cellist Dan Tobin in Lost Voices, HNAM's first production. Artists Heather Blake Krumnow and Justino Saladino will exhibit photographs and sketches, respectively, inspired by the musical program. 6:30 p.m. Dowling Music, 2615 Southwest Freeway. For information, call 713-248-2247 or visit www.artsmove.net. $10.
