The Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows

Now what exactly is musical freestyling for pooches?

There will be yipping, yapping, barking and the occasionally out-and-out growl as canines from around the country put their best paws forward at the Reliant Park World Series of Dog Shows. The dog-eat-dog competitions will include tests of agility, weight pulling, obedience, Frisbee catching, flyball and something called “musical freestyle” (don’t expect an appearance by Snoop Dogg or Li’l Bow Wow). Prospective pooch parents can also find out which animal is right for them in “Meet the Breed.” “This is what really sets our show apart,” says Carol Williamson, Meet the Breed chairwoman. “Televised dog shows are popular now, and we’re all for them. But this gives you a chance to talk to experts on the kind of dog you’re interested in before you buy.” 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Reliant Center, One Reliant Park. For information, call 713-824-4968 or visit www.reliantdogshows.com. $5 to $10.
