If you dig around on YouTube long enough, you'll find footage of Weird Al Yankovic's first-ever television appearance on NBC's Tomorrow with Tom Snyder back in 1981. It's a strangely harrowing version of "Another One Rides the Bus" done solely on accordion by a manic Yankovic with a man tinkering on horns behind him. For a man who would later make his money doing big-budget spoofs of Michael Jackson, Aerosmith and most recently T.I., it's a pleasant reminder that under all the hair and goof, he is actually an amazing, esoteric musician. He's also played an integral role in the musical development of younger music fans, who soon find the original tunes that he parodies. He may dare to be stupid, but Yankovic's heart has always been in the right place.
