"Little by Little"

This time it's personal

Los Angeles-based artist Sarah Cain usually doesn't include much personal subject matter in her work, but that's not the case for the exhibit "Little by Little." The exhibit takes its title from the Chuck Klosterman quote "Living is dying, little by little." During the time Cain was working on the pieces for the exhibit, she was also spending hours and hours with her mother, who was in an intensive-care unit following brain surgery. CTRL gallery owner Bryan Miller says, "You could look at some of the work and see imagery that you could imagine as being drawn from [that] experience, but then again that might be a stretch." One piece shows a circle drawn on found sheet music. Inside the circle are colorful, geometric designs. "That piece reminded me of a brain scan," says Miller, before adding that, like all art, it could be interpreted differently by another viewer. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
