"Perspectives 171: Jennifer West"

Jennifer West has some interesting editing techniques. The filmmaker/multimedia artist’s movies are stepped on, skated over and sprayed with everything from whiskey to hardboiled eggs before seeing screen time. But these beatings random -- West carefully chooses her torturous methods to match her subject matter. For Shred the Gnar Full Moon Film Noir, which will be included in “Perspectives 171: Jennifer West,” West’s footage of a full moon was scratched up thanks to snowboarders on a half pipe. “A lot of them got really into it and were shredding up the film,” says West. Then she took it to a party, where it was sprayed with various libations, put it in a hot tub, and rubbed it with Advil, butter and KY Jelly. West used “Advil for [the pain] after a day of snowboarding, and then the butter and KY Jelly for being able to glide on the snow,” she says.
