Used to fighting your hunger by eating? During Houston Restaurant Week, you can fight other people's hunger, too. At more than 100 restaurants in and around the city, diners can get high-end cuisine at decidedly low-end costs. A typical dinner at Mark's (seared Hudson foie gras, fire-roasted breast of Muscovy with duck confit), for example, can easily set you back $80, but during Restaurant Week (which actually lasts three weeks), Mark's will offer up the same menu for a mere $35. The same price stands for three-to-four-course dinners at other restaurants such as benjy's, Julia's Bistro and Sushi Raku, and at lunch, $20 gets you two courses. Restaurants will donate $5 from each dinner and $3 from each lunch to the Houston Food Bank, which feeds 137,000 people each week. So eat away! This month, gluttony is good. August 1 through 21. Various locations. For information, visit www.houstonrestaurantweek.com.
