It's been said the spirit can move people to dance, and we won't argue with that. "When the Spirit Moves: African American Dance in History and Art," an exhibit on display at the Houston Public Library, explores the different dance styles that came out of Africa and how they changed and evolved when brought to America. The archival exhibition, which spans the 1660s, when African slaves arrived in America, to more recent times, was created by the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center in Wilberforce, Ohio. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through August 21. African American Library at the Gregory School Exhibition Gallery, 1300 Victor Street. For information, call 832-393-1313 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org. Free.
Mondays-Thursdays, Saturdays. Starts: July 1. Continues through Aug. 21, 2010
