"The Whole Shebang"

These are works of outsider artists

Playing its part in Art Houston 2010, “The Whole Shebang”will feature the works of three artists, Tom d. Duimstra, Mark Fox and Eric Davis. The exhibit is Hooks-Epstein Galleries’ first display of outsider art. “The line between outsider art and contemporary art is a very thin one,” said Eric Davis, the gallery’s curator. The work done by outsider artists typically includes materials that are easily at hand “Many contemporary artists also use readily available materials to create work,” said Davis. What sets the two genres apart, however, is the perception of the artists. “Outsider artists have long [been] thought to be poverty stricken and mentally challenged in some form or another,” said Davis. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through August 21. 2631 Colquitt. Call 713-522-0718 or visit www.hooksepsteingalleries.com. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 3. Continues through Aug. 21, 2010
