When it comes to real life bleeding fingers and broken guitar strings, there weren't many first-wave alt-country bands from Texas that did it better than Slobberbone. There weren't many first-wave alt-country bands from anywhere that did it louder, that's for sure. For a solid decade, Brent Best and his three Denton buddies wore the tires bald on their van, acquiring a reputation as something of a Whiskeytown for serious drinkers and racking up a staggering empty-bottle and broken-heart count over four albums, including 2000's certifiably classic (and self-explanatory) Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today. After an extended detour in the Drams, Best re-formed Slobberbone — which wasn't that difficult, considering the Drams were 75 percent Slobberbone already — and posted several new songs on the group's Web site earlier this year.
