Mystery author David Rosenfelt owns 27 dogs. His latest mystery, Dog Tags, is the third in a series featuring Andy Carpenter, a dog-loving attorney and — we think — Rosenfelt’s alter ego. When German Shepherd Milo, a former police dog, and his owner are found next to a corpse, the owner faces a prison sentence, but Milo is looking at a death sentence. It’s Milo’s plight, not his owner’s, that wins the attention of attorney Andy Carpenter. And the dog is more than ready to help him chase the crime-solving trail. Alliance Française is hosting the reading, and — did you see this coming? — a percentage of book sales will benefit Houston’s own Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue. 5 pm. 427 Lovett Blvd. For information, call 281-480-4942 or visit www.afdehou.org. $10 suggested donation.
