Without featuring a single person, the photographs in Richard Misrach's "After Katrina"are nevertheless all about human loss. The exhibition's 69 photographs present graffiti as a free and uncensored means of communicating. Some words express frustration: "PLEASE REMOVE YOUR CAR FROM THE BOAT WITHOUT CRUSHING IT" and "SOB THAT LOOTED ME I WILL KILL YOU!" Others are heart-tugging personal prayers: "DESTROY THIS MEMORY.," "HELP! HELP!" and "Michael where are you?" Some of the most haunting photos are simple statements: "1 dead dog, 2 cats 1 bird" and "I AM HERE AND I HAVE A GUN." Misrach, who donated photos from the "After Katrina" series to five museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, also compiled them into the book Destroy this Memory.10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturday, 12:15 to 7 p.m. Sundays.
