The Adventures of Arthur Ignatius in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll puts Arthur Conan Doyle down the rabbit hole

New theater company Killdozer Productions tells a mighty strange origin story on its Web site. As the tale goes, in 2004, a small-town muffler repair shop owner was put out of business by a cement company. He got his revenge in a truly dramatic way - going on a suicidal rampage in a bulldozer packed with chunks of concrete. Hence the name. How's that for some high theatrics?

Killdozer's first production, Martin McDonagh's bloody play The Pillowman, fit the company's name. Now the group is premiering an original work by Houston playwright Clay Ratcliff called The Adventures of Arthur Ignatius in Wonderland. The strange story imagines what would have happened if Lewis Carroll (the author of Alice in Wonderland) met Arthur Conan Doyle (of Sherlock Holmes fame) and the two ran off to Wonderland. While built around the setting for Carroll's children's book, the play is definitely for adults. Like Alice, Carroll and Doyle enter unfamiliar territory when they go down the rabbit hole. But unlike Alice, the two men face darker, more threatening situations. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through September 19. Express Theatre, 446 Northwest Mall. For information, call 832-561-1601 or visit www.killdozerproductions.com. $10.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 3. Continues through Sept. 19, 2010
