Firoozeth Dumas

The Iranian-American writer shows readers why everything's Funny in Farsi

You'll have the chance to see if author Firoozeth Dumas is indeed Funny in Farsi during her reading today. Dumas is one of the Iranian-American authors being featured this month by Books on the Bayou, but she's the only one with a book title that promises to make us laugh. Funny in Farsi was loved by the critics and even considered for a sitcom by ABC, but not everyone was a fan. Newsday might have celebrated Dumas for her success in "pointing out the deliciously absurd aspects of both American and Iranian culture...," but some readers were unmoved by her use of broad terms to depict the struggles inherent in assimilation into mainstream culture. Dumas and her family tales of coming and going between Iranian and American cultures start at 1 pm. at the Houston Central Library, 500 McKinney.
