Author and spoken-word performer Mike Guinn hopes to convey a message of social significance in his work. By merging traditional poetry with spoken word, Guinn believes it's possible to "bridge the gap between mainstream academic or literary poetry and underground spoken word." He'll be doing just that at this month's First Friday Poetry Reading Series. A dysfunctional adolescence and years of working as a caseworker for Child Protective Services give him plenty of fodder for his unique brand of performance art. The Fort Worth resident will also be signing copies of Crying in Colors, The Poemography of a Man, his newest collection. 8:30 p.m. Inprint House, 1520 West Main. For information, call 713-521-2026 or visit www.inprinthouston.org/first-fridays. Free.
Fri., Sept. 10, 8:30 p.m., 2010
