Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

See an authentic version of the show that made Carol Channing a star

Bayou City Concert Musicals Director Paul Hope warns if audiences "think they know Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, they should think again - 'cause this is one they haven't seen." Most people know the story of two showgirls out to catch husbands from the 1953 film adaption in which Marilyn Monroe launched a never-ending campaign for diamonds, but fewer know the original flapper-era musical which ran in 1949 with Carol Channing as the beautiful but dumb Lorelei Lee. The two shows are strikingly different, including several different songs and a new emphasis on Lorelei's friend, Dorothy, in the film.

Hope says that the BCCM production is more Channing than Monroe and that while there will be copious amounts of top-notch singing and dancing, production values will be simpler than the multimedia megashows currently seen on Broadway (translation: there's no Miss Saigon helicopter or Phantom of the Operachandelier). Rather, with Bayou City Concert Musicals, he says, "It's all about telling the story..."
