Made in Lanus

Two couples, two choices, one reality

We can only wonder if the late Nelly Fernandez Tiscornia, the Argentinean playwright who wrote Made in Lanus, would have taken sides on today's immigration issues. The play, being produced in Spanish by Gente de Teatro, certainly doesn't. It introduces us to two Argentinean couples: Mabel and Osvaldo, who emigrate to Philadelphia while Yoli and Negro stay behind in Buenos Aires. Ana Scuseria, who plays Mabel, told us, "The play doesn't have an agenda; it is simply about the hard choices made by those of us who stay, and those of us who leave." In Philadelphia, Osvaldo finds it hard to assimilate to American culture, while in Argentina Yoli is more than hopeful about building a better future for her children in her native land. 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Rice University, 6100 Main. For information, visit www.gentedeteatro.com.
