2nd Annual Indian Film Festival of Houston

Sutapa Ghosh, founder of Houston's own Indian Film Festival, told us the idea for the first festival was inspired by the success of Slumdog Millionaire. "Slumdog, coupled with how international our city has become, made it clear for me that it was the right time for Houston to get [a festival]." This year's 2nd Annual Indian Film Festivalis a five-day long affair. One highlight is UDAAN, which was well received at the Cannes Film Festival; it tells the story of a teenager in rural India who longs to be a writer, against his father's wishes. The director of this coming-of-age story, Vikramaditya Motwane, will attend the festival's Awards Night on Sunday. Also in attendance will be Indian heartthrob Iqbal Khan and actress Raima Sen. Sen plays a young widow in The Japanese Wife, screening at the fest. Her character proves somewhat distracting to a man who has been happily married for 17 years to a woman he's never seen.
