Intrepid Fringe is clearly living up to its name - the theater company has fearlessly picked Shakespeare's King Lear, one of the darkest, hardest tragedies in the western canon, for its third show. Pride is always a problem for tragic heroes, and so it is for the aging Lear. Throw in a raging storm and a couple of greedy daughters, and you've got a tale of apocalyptic proportions. Using a soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, Intrepid Fringe turns this woeful night of fatherly foolishness into an epic of heavy-metal proportions. 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Through October 9. Obsidian Art Space, 3522 White Oak. For information, call 281-734-8314 or visit www.troupedjour.com. $15 to $20.
Sept. 23-25; Sept. 30-Oct. 2; Oct. 7-9, 2010
