Day of the Dead might seem like a long way off to you, but not to a group of artists busily at work on pieces they plan to show in exhibitions around the city. The group is holding a one-day exhibit, "Preparing for the Dead," to show the pieces in progress. Included in the mix of artists is Jonatan Lopez, a sculptor who will be displaying pieces made from small scraps of metal welded together to form bodies. Don’t miss Redeemer, a male figure with a nest of chains in his belly, and chains replacing his arms and penis as well. Other participating artists include Stephanie Saint Sanchez, Lizbeth Ortiz and Valerie G. 8 p.m. to midnight. Rhino Gallery, 2316 Caroline. For information, call 512-689-0209. Free.
Sat., Sept. 25, 8 p.m., 2010
