The premise behind Samm-Art Williams's comedy The Waiting Room is simple: There's nothing like sitting in the waiting room of a hospital to test one's faith. After patriarch Pullen Innes has a heart attack and ends up in the hospital, his family and friends gather to await his fate. The waiting room is filled up with characters including hot-to-trot Uncle Pat, wild-thang Cookie Whittaker, and Riley, the serious young man who has rushed home from out of town to see his ill father. Watch the familial fireworks explode in The Waiting Room at 8 p.m. today. Through October 17. Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main.
