Fitzgerald's begins its new regime under Free Press Houston's Omar Afra and Pegstar's Jagi Katial in earnest Thursday night ("Little Friday" to the drinking set) with the Drums, the Young Friends and a slew of locals including Black Congress and Weird Party lined up as support for the venue's grand reopening. The rest of the weekend is jam-packed and wired for boogie with Austin's The Roller and Houston's Golden Axe throwing down Friday night with fellow locals Omotai and The Energy. Saturday evening, $15 gets you 12 bands scattered over the venue's two stages, including hip-hoppers Aesop Rock and B L A C K I E, Roky Moon & BOLT, Tyagaraja, and Brandon West & the Black Hats. For the past few weeks, the historic venue has been undergoing minor tweaks and changes, and Houston is anxiously waiting to see what Afra and his crew have done with the old girl.
