Fatima Bhutto

Family matters when you’re a Bhutto

Author and journalist Fatima Bhutto’s family history is inextricably bound up with Pakistan’s political past. Her grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the country’s fourth president. Her father Murtaza Bhutto was an elected member of parliament and was assassinated in 1996. Her aunt Benazir Bhutto was campaigning for a third term as prime minister when she was assassinated by a suicide bomber in 2007.

Today Fatima Bhutto will discuss her latest book, the memoir Songs of Blood and Sword, which some critics feel is both a love letter to her father and a display of naked disapproval of her aunt. But familial dysfunction is to be expected, even from one of the world’s most important political dynasties. Learn Fatima’s side today at 6:30 p.m. Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 West Alabama.
