Lawndale Art Center does it again
Mexico's Day of the Dead makes the gringo tradition of running from house to house to get candy seem positively, well, juvenile. Day of the Dead revelers celebrate departed friends and family while enjoying the company of the living (and surrounding themselves with some creepy-looking skulls, skeletons and more otherworldy images). Lawndale Art Center's "23rd Annual Día de los Muertos" exhibit and events series, one of its most popular events of the year, commemorates this Mexican holiday with an exhibition of homemade retablos, small artworks inspired by Latin American devotional art, crafted by local artists. The center will also host a community altar honoring deceased loved ones as well as parties, workshops and auctions - including lessons on how to make those famed sugar skulls. 4912 Main.
