Poet Karyna McGlynn, appearing today at the Gulf Coast Reading series, earned legions of fans with her first collection of poetry, I Have to Go Back to 1994 and Kill a Girl. Her latest effort is Small Shrines, a collection of "odes to minor living celebrities" such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Anderson Cooper, Miranda July and Michael Chabon. "It's very pop cultural and purposefully flippant," she says. McGlynn reads with fiction writers Jason Daniels and Kevin Tynan today at 7 p.m. Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet.
