Inanimate Objects

The Inanimate Objects may be new to us, but they're hardly new. Like first-wave stalwarts the Hates, the local trio has been around since the early '80s, when they opened for Hüsker Dü, San Francisco's Los Microwaves and Pearland's The Judy's at long-gone Main Street punk redoubt The Island. Copies of the Objects' 1982 EP The New One have fetched as much as $300 on eBay, and the title cut appeared alongside Lone Star stalwarts the Skunks, Really Red, Legionnaire's Disease and the Huns on another hard-to-find jewel, 1992 compilation Bloodstains Across Texas. Amazingly, though, the band has never released a full-length CD until now: Not My Problem, released Tuesday on Atlanta's Interchange Records, contains hints of Iggy Pop's solo work, the Dead Kennedys, Butthole Surfers and Nuggets-era garage rock. The Objects' original lead singer Id Pleasure, who left in 1987, will re-join the trio at Saturday's show.
