It's always a good rule to order the signature dish at any restaurant, especially when it has the restaurant's name attached to it. At Café Mawal (6006 Fairdale, 713-977-1999), you won't go wrong with the Mawal Signature Dish ($13), which is not unlike nachos. Made with crispy pita bread pieces covered in butter instead of tortilla chips, it's topped with a wonderful mixture of tiny cubes of filet mignon marinated in Middle Eastern spices, grilled onions, red and green bell peppers, tomatoes and a thick, homemade yogurt.
