MOMIX: Botanica

The dancers/illusionists keep everything coming up...roses?

The performers of MOMIX describe themselves as dancer-illusionists - and when you see their bodies transform into plants, bend into light and rise from billowing clouds, you'll be at a loss for any other term. In Botanica, performed here by the Connecticut-based troupe, they examine the natural world by using props, lighting and technology - as well as a heavy dose of pure skill - to become flowers, birds, insects and sunflowers, and it's all set to ethereal music ranging from electronica to Vivaldi to birdsong. It's like a pared-down Cirque du Soleil, and that's not a bad thing: no need for acrobatics and super-strength here, just the glories of nature and the skill of the dancer - with a touch of magic. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-227-4772 or visit www.spahouston.org. $24 to $54.
Sat., Oct. 16, 8 p.m., 2010
