The author behind The Spiderwick Chronicles and Kenny & The Dragon, Tony DiTerlizzi, is doing pretty good these days. His latest book, The Search for Wondla, is among the most highly anticipated of the season (oh, and it's been optioned to Paramount Pictures). Wondla features a young girl and her robot protector. Forced to flee their underground home and venture above ground in search of other humans and shelter, the pair encounter a bizzare variety of creatures - both friendly and hostile.
