When you first discover "Queen of Rockabilly" Wanda Jackson, you'll spend about a month in awe of her sinful growl. Easily one of the most underrated female instruments in rock and country, Jackson's voice can sound shredded by the daggers of love one moment and absolutely man-ravaging the next. Early in her career she toured with Elvis Presley, and even dated the King for a bit while they traversed the States spreading their gospel of hopped-up country, soon to become early rock and roll. Her 1960 LP Rockin' with Wanda is Jackson at her most lethal, with tracks like "Baby Loves Him" and "Fujiyama Mama" showcasing her distinctive purr. (You wouldn't want to get on the bad side of the girl in the latter song, believe us.) We are anxiously awaiting her new album, cut with Jack White this past year, to hit the shelves. It's said to be a career redefiner, much like his 2004 album with Jackson's fellow legend Loretta Lynn, Van Lear Rose.
