A 1930s art deco gas station is the setting for "AirPlane1 and AirStation1, an Art Installation by Dion Laurent."The centerpiece in the installation, AirPlane1, is a winner from this year's Art Car parade and was fashioned after a 1956 Cessna 170 airplane. (The full-scale wood and metal sculpture is actually a home-built electric car.) Complete with the smooth, stylized curves of the period-era Cessna, AirPlane1 is parked in front of AirStation1, which has been reconceptualized as an one-room emergency AirStation with a twist. The tiny building has been altered to resemble a greenhouse air station, one that supposedly has a self-sustaining ecosystem. (A former working gas station, AirStation1 is now associated with the Station Museum of Contemporary Art.) According to press materials, former Houstonian Dion Laurent created AirPlane1as a blend of art and science, with a nod to bio-regenerative life support systems. 3709 La Branch. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Through December 31. For information, call 713-529-6900 or visit www.airstation1.com. Free.
