1st Houston Flamenco Festival

A performance that truly honors the tradition of flamenco should be held in an intimate cafe, be rife with spontaneity and, of course, keep its revelers up all night until the beat is ringing in their ears. The first Houston Flamenco Festival, hosted by Del Espadin Flamenco, will do this and more as it hosts performances, meet-and-greets, Q&A sessions and dance and singing classes. The centerpiece of the event is a performance by Seville-based Arte y Pureza at Andalucia Tapas. The group's style is modern - think minimalist chic, with splashes of Spanish color - but their show has all the hand-clapping and heel-tapping you’d expect from a world-class company. The rhythm will begin October 28 at a festival kickoff party, complete with snacks, singing and Spanish-infused celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. Tintos Tapas Restaurant, 2015 West Gray. For a full schedule, call 713-899-3771 or visit www. flamencospirit.com. $20 to $40.
Oct. 28-31, 2010
