Nine Nation Animation

As animation software becomes more available and animators increasingly think of themselves as artsy-fringe directors, cartoon shorts are becoming more global and more interesting. For proof, check out Nine Nation Animation, the latest program from Brooklyn-based distributor The World According to Shorts. The show includes a Belgian comedy about neighbors sharing close quarters and a South African animal cartoon in hues evoking Tim Burton. There's also a British throwback to the colorful cartoons of the '60s and a French-produced history lesson on Buddha statues destroyed in Afghanistan. That’s quite a lot of variety in a 90-minute program. 5 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org. $6 to $7.
