Shakespeare might not be the first writer who comes to mind when you think of ghost stories and Halloween, but director Jack Young insists that his production of Richard III is a great offering for the season. He likens the famous tragedy (a raging, angry hunchback, Richard plots and plans to forcefully install himself as king of England) to a popular horror film series. "It has the same sensibilities as Saw," says Young, quickly adding that it's not quite as gruesome. He promises, "The show has a creep-show, twisted-mirror, haunted-house feel. Things are off-kilter." The twisted Richard is certainly one of Shakespeare's best bad guys. We get to watch as Richard picks off nobleman after nobleman on his way toward the crown. It's all set against what Young calls a nightmare scene of strange pyrotechnics, including silent films and techno music.
