Richard Leakey: Why Our Origins Matter

More than 1.5 million years ago, a pre-teen boy lived and died in Kenya. Twenty-six years ago, famed paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey discovered his fossilized skeleton. Named Turkana Boy, he's considered "the first early human...with a tall stature...like our own," according to experts. Leakey, one of Time magazine's 100 Great Minds of the 21st century, is coming to the Progressive Forum to present a talk called "Why Our Origins Matter." If anyone can explain the beginnings of humankind and how the events of more than a million years ago continue to affect us, it's Richard Leakey. 7:30 p.m. Wortham Center, 501 Texas. For information, call 832-251-0706 or visit www.progressiveforumhouston.org. $14 to $74.
