The Pawnbroker

What do you do when you've lost everyone and everything? When you've suffered more pain than most people can imagine? In the film The Pawnbroker, an elderly shopkeeper who survived the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp withdraws further and further away from the world around him. That is, until the day his young assistant puts himself in harm's way in order to protect the old man during a robbery. That gesture awakens long-forgotten feelings in the man, emotions he'd long repressed.

The Pawnbroker is one of three screenings in the Holocaust Museum Houston Fall Film series, a collection of award-winning films that were crucial to shaping the world's understanding of the Holocaust. 7 p.m. 5401 Caroline.
