Long before mean-girl cheerleaders became the stuff of tabloids and film, Jack Heifner wrote Vanities. The 1976 play tells the story of three Texas cheerleaders who are having a hard time leaving their pom-poms behind. Vanities follows the girls from the angst and giggles of high school through the confusing times of college and finally to the sadness of adulthood. Each woman handles her grown-up difficulties differently, though it does appear that Kathy, Joanne and Mary have very, very similar tastes in men. Cheer for your favorite at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sunday, November 7. Through November 13. Theatre Southwest, 8944-A Clarkcrest. For information, call 713-661-9505 or visit www.theatresouthwest.org. $16.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 22. Continues through Nov. 13, 2010
