Saturday will see Beans Barton and The Bi-Peds and the Tribal Lilies Belly Dance Troupe entertaining at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar. Costume prizes include Beans performance art (value $500-plus). Doors will open at 8 p.m., the show starts at 9 p.m. and entrance is $10. On Halloween proper, Chris Chandler and Paul Benoit will entertain from 4 to 6 p.m. As part of the John's Juke Joint Show, customers will see performances by Funky Mustard, Romeo Dogs, T.C. and The Cannonballs, and Big Al Bettis from 6 to 11 p.m. Entrance is $10. There will be costume prizes, and doors open at 3 p.m.

This October 30 and 31, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., respectively, MECA will present Día de los Muertos: Honoring Our Past, Celebrating Our Future. This event features Día de los Muertos celebrations from throughout Latin America, with an altar exhibit competition, foods from the Americas, vendors selling authentic Latin American Día de los Muertos arts and crafts, and a Calavera Fashion Show. It is held at MECA's campus, located at the Dow School in Houston's Old Sixth Ward.

Head to the Texas Renaissance Festival for an old take on Halloween in the All Hallows Eve Adventure, which will feature a Banshee Screeching Contest, a pumpkin-carving contest, a costume contest and a candied-apple-eating contest. The event will be open from 9 a.m. to dusk each day. Entry is $23 per person.

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas invites children and their families to celebrate Halloween and the Day of the Dead by feasting on fried crickets, decorating sugar skulls and enjoying a variety of exciting art activities and entertainment at "Eat a Bug!" Family Arts Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and participate in the costume contest that will be judged at noon. Live entertainment will also be provided by the Mexican Heritage Society.
