Britten's story of a man unjustly accused packs an emotional wallop
It almost goes without saying that in September 1945 the people of London were ready for a little entertainment. And they got it in the form of suspenseful crime-story opera Peter Grimes, by Benjamin Britten, being presented here by the Houston Grand Opera as the fourth installment in its Britten series. London audiences instantly fell in love with this story of a man who's made an outcast when he's suspected of killing his young apprentice. Anthony Dean Griffey, who sang the role recently at the Metropolitan Opera, takes the title role in the show, which some have called a critique of homophobia.
