The bittersweet love story of Selkie, A Sea Tale is based on Irish folklore about mythical creatures. To come on land they shed their skins, which allows them to take human form. But if their skins are stolen or lost, they can't become a seal again and must remain human. Much of the action in this new opera/theater piece centers on a woman longingly remembering her selkie lover who has returned to the sea. The piece was composed by Elliot Cooper Cole and features a libretto by Misha Penton, who also performs. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Obsidian Arts Space, 3522 White Oak Drive.
