Suchu Dance is adding two new works to its repertoire this season and you can be among the first to see them at rep program I Can Move Small Objects with My Mind. The new pieces are Huldy Humongous and Bump, both of which were premiered at dance festivals earlier this year and were choreographed by Suchu Dance Artistic Director Jennifer Wood. For Bump, she had a very particular idea in mind when creating the work - to overcome the need for special flooring on the performance space. While the special flooring protects the dancers from injury, it also limits the spaces in which dancers can perform. "I wanted a suite of works that could be done anywhere, on any hostile surface or environment," says Wood. "On cement, on grass, on the street, in a bank lobby, under a bridge..." Wood admits that opening up the options of performance spaces limits, to some degree, the movements of the dancers. "The potential surfaces are coarse or brutally hard, so no rolling or knee spins or face plants. I don't want anyone planting her face into a pile of broken glass or dog poo." 8 p.m. November 11 through 13 and 19 through 20, 7 p.m. November 21. Barnevelder Theater, 2201 Preston.
