Cheech and Chong: Get It Legal Tour

There's too much money on the table for Baby Boomer comedy duo Cheech and Chong not to reunite. Television and movie roles are scarce for the pair, Cheech's hobby of collecting world-class Latino art takes big bucks to maintain and Chong's business ventures haven’t worked out well, so it made sense to put aside previous differences and hit the stage again. If they happen to school some younger comics trying to emulate the two-man stoner comedy shtick Cheech and Chong perfected - from Jay and Silent Bob to Harold and Kumar - that's just a happy coincidence.

From 1971 to 1985, these two hairy comics embraced the grimy irreverence of the hippie movement, not to mention the overindulgence in certain mind-altering substances, and turned them into six movies and eight comedy albums of songs and sketches (does anybody out there remember comedy albums?). There were also now-iconic sketch routines such as Dave's Not Here and Sister Mary Elephant. On their current Get It Legal tour, they benefit from their years of experience together - as well as a following generally high enough to laugh at anything. 8 p.m. Verizon Theater, 520 Texas. For information, call 713-230-1600 or visit www.livenation.com. $35 to $45.
Fri., Nov. 19, 8 p.m., 2010
