At the Peak

Himalaya Restaurant has one of the city's best Créme Brulées.

It might seem strange to find one of the best crèmes brûlées in the city at Himalaya Restaurant (6652 Southwest Fwy., 713-532-2837), which serves Pakistani cuisine. It's not easy to find, either, since it's listed on the menu as Almond Custard ($4.69). The small, perfect dessert is bright-yellow in the center, with deep-brown caramelized sugar and crushed almond pieces on the top and bottom. The consistency is quite firm, just as it should be; this isn't the limp, quivering kind that you so often find. And the taste? Heavenly, as the burnt sugar adds a distinct sweetness and a slight bitterness to the rich egg flavor.
