Welcome the winter holiday with your favorite politicos and a few hundred close friends at the Mayor’s 2010 Holiday Celebration. Local favorites Maria Todd and Brad Boooker of MIX 96.5 will be emcees for the event, which features Grammy Award winner Eddie Levert of the O’Jays. Members of the Houston Ballet’s The Nutcracker, performers from the Soreal Dance Studio fresh from their competition on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, Masquerade Theatre and several local choirs will also perform. Mayor Annise Parker will be on hand to throw the switch on hundreds of lights that cover the 70-foot holiday tree, with a little help from Santa, of course. Then fireworks will fill the evening sky to close out the program. 6 to 8 p.m. City Hall, 901 Bagby. For information, call 832-393-0868. Free.
